Full Time Position–Water Distribution Operator

The City of St. Louis Water Department is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Water Distribution  Operator.  As this is a “base” position within the Department, candidates should expect to perform the basic tasks.  Required skills and experience are as follows.

  • Minimum of a High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience in water utility work and repairs is a plus.
  • Experience operating a variety of equipment such as tractors, backhoe, dump trucks, trencher, and similar equipment, is a plus.
  • Candidate must be able to attend training classes as required and obtain the necessary certificates and licenses as determined by Management with input by the candidate. It is expected that the selected candidate will obtain his State water operator certificates.
  • Commercial Driver license class A with N endorsement, or the ability to obtain one. The selected candidate will work with his Department Supervisor to determine when this license will be required.
  • The ability to take direction well, troubleshoot problems and be a team player.
  • The starting rate of pay for this position is $19.71 per hour in accordance with the current Union contract with a probation period of 180 days.
  • This position includes an attractive benefit package including retirement, health, dental and life insurance, paid vacation, sick, personal, holidays, clothing and cell phone allowances.
  • This is a Union position affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 876.
  • Areas of work for this position would include but not be limited to, water lines, valves, and hydrants, sewer pump stations, assistance with cemetery work such as grave opening and closing, concrete foundation work, and other Water Department responsibilities as needed.
